LOS ANGELES — Veteran left-handed starter Clayton Kershaw is expected to appear in two more rehab games this week for the Triple-A OKC Comets, continuing his rehab assignment before his activation this summer.
Kershaw, 37, has already appeared in two rehab games this season, tossing three scoreless innings for the Comets back on April 16th, throwing just thirty pitches, allowing two hits, and collecting two strikeouts.
His second start was less perfect but still solid for the Dodgers’ Double-A affiliate, the Tula Drillers. He pitched another three innings, this time allowing one run on four hits and throwing sixty pitches.
Overall, Kershaw has a 1.50 ERA in six innings pitched this season in the minors. His velocity, which averaged 87.5 mph in his first rehab start, is the most concerning mark.
Kershaw’s next start will be on Tuesday for OKC, where the lefty is expected to throw five innings (seventy-five pitches) before starting another game on regular rest on Sunday, which will be shorter.
After Sunday’s outing that would be four appearances for the lefty who is still ineligible to return from the 60-day injured list until May 17th.
With the expected loss of Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell, who is currently on the 15-injured list with left shoulder discomfort, Clayton Kershaw’s return could bring much-needed stability to the Dodgers starting rotation as they enter the dog days of summer.
