Dodgers News: Clayton Kershaw Will Make 2025 Debut on Saturday Against Angels

LOS ANGELES— The Los Angeles Dodgers’ starting rotation has taken quite the hit so far during the 2025 Major League Baseball regular season, losing more than half of their Opening Day rotation on the injured list in Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, and now rookie Roki Sasaki.
However, the team will get a massive boost to its rotation this weekend. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced yesterday that veteran left-handed starter Clayton Kershaw will be activated off the 60-day injured list on Saturday and make his 2025 season debut at Dodger Stadium against the Los Angeles Angels.
Kershaw, 37, missed the entire season until this point, rehabbing his knee and toe injury, for which he underwent offseason surgery.
The lefty re-signed with the Dodgers just as the team reported to spring training in Glendale, Arizona, to a 1-year, $7.5 million deal that could reach $16 million if the lefty hits the numerous incentives and escalators in the contract.
It’ll be Kershaw’s eighteenth season with Los Angeles, tying him with Bill Russell and Zack Wheat for the most in franchise history.
Kershaw appeared in five minor league rehab starts, posting a 2.57 ERA in thirty-one innings pitched and collecting sixteen punchouts despite battling inconsistent velocity.
Kershaw appeared in a handful of games last season after missing the entire first half of the regular season, recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.
After making his regular season debut in July last season at Dodger Stadium against their National League West rival, the San Francisco Giants, the lefty would only make six more starts, pitching to a 4.50 ERA in thirty innings.
Kershaw’s return will also count down the massive milestone of the future Hall of Famer reaching the illustrious three thousand strikeout club, a mark only hit by three other left-handed pitchers: Steve Carlton, Randy Johnson, and CC Sabathia.
