Dodgers News: Dalton Rushing Activated, Chuckie Robinson Optioned

After suffering a severe bone bruise in his right leg in Baltimore, Dalton Rushing has returned

LOS ANGELES, CA—Before tonight’s Game Two versus the Philadelphia Phillies, the Los Angeles Dodgers are set to activate 24-year-old rookie catcher Dalton Rushing off the 10-day injured list.

Rushing, like All-Star catcher Will Smith, got injured during the Dodgers’ final East Coast road trip in Baltimore, where the switch-hitting backstop fouled a hard-hit ball off the top of his right shin.

The injury caused immense pain, and Rushing was forced to be helped off the field by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and a team trainer.

After the game, Rushing had X-rays and an MRI, which showed just a deep right leg bone bruise.

After a few days off his feet, Rushing would start a minor league rehab assignment with the Triple-A OKC Comets last week, going 4-for-10 with five walks and two RBIs.

Rushing was set to fill the void left by Will Smith’s injury, but in the meantime, he has been helped by Ben Rortvedt, who has done well in his limited ten-game sample size, slashing .308/.400/.385 with a .785 OPS in thirty-two at-bats.

To make room on the 28-man roster, the Dodgers optioned minor league catcher Chuckie Robinson, who made his lone start yesterday in the Dodgers ’ 6-5 loss.

The return of Rushing is significant as it gives the Dodgers a legitimate replacement for Will Smith, who could likely miss the rest of the regular season as the team nurses his right hand for the postseason.
