Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Finds Renewed Purpose Within Dodgers’ Dynasty

As the Los Angeles Dodgers continue one of the most dominant stretches in modern baseball history, Dave Roberts finds himself in a far different headspace than he was just a few seasons ago.
A couple of years removed from early postseason exits and growing public scrutiny, Roberts admitted he was once unsure how long he wanted to continue managing, despite owning the highest winning percentage of any manager in MLB history and a World Series title already on his resume. The question that lingered most, he said, was simple but deeply unsettling: what was he still chasing?

Those doubts have since faded. Entering the 2026 season with back-to-back championships and a chance at a historic three-peat, Roberts believes the Dodgers’ sustained success has reaffirmed both his approach and his purpose. Speaking recently with Jack Harris of The California Post, Roberts reflected on the stability within the organization from ownership to the front office to the clubhouse culture as a major source of pride.
Rather than focusing solely on titles, Roberts now measures success more broadly. He described a renewed appreciation for happiness, daily enjoyment, and the relationships built throughout the season, alongside the obvious goal of winning championships. That mindset, he believes, has helped him grow as a leader.
One of the moments that stood out most to Roberts was last October’s postseason run, when roster flexibility and pitching depth were constantly tested. He emphasized the complete trust he felt from players throughout the process, noting that buy-in from the clubhouse never wavered, even amid frequent lineup changes and shifting roles.
Roberts also pointed to his own evolution in the dugout. With more than a decade of managerial experience, he feels his decision-making has slowed down in a positive way, allowing clarity to replace urgency. At 53, he believes his best years may still lie ahead, citing wisdom and experience as advantages that only grow with time.
Off the field, Roberts has made lifestyle changes aimed at sustaining his energy. Late last season, he adjusted his diet, significantly reduced alcohol consumption, and shed weight, entering the new year feeling healthier than at any point in his managerial career. He said maintaining that energy matters, not just personally, but as an example for his players.
Now signed to a new four-year contract, Roberts no longer feels consumed by questions about his future. Instead, he’s present, energized, and enjoying the ride chasing not just wins, but fulfillment.
