Dodgers News: Dave Roberts on Tanner Scott: “I just wanted to get him back in the game”

SAN FRANCISCO, CA—The Dodgers are still working to get Tanner Scott right before the postseason, and Saturday night was a step in the right direction.
Scott came in to finish off the win, and manager Dave Roberts said he liked what he saw.
“I thought the slider tonight was much better,” Roberts said. “And I think for me, I just wanted to get him back in the game. I want him to know that we have confidence in him and I just felt that to kind of wash last night’s outing, what better way to do that than to get back in there. And to his credit, he made the most of it.”
Roberts added that Scott’s fastball also looked sharp and that the lefty was able to generate some swing-and-miss with his slider, something that has been missing during his recent struggles.
For the Dodgers, the goal is to build Scott’s confidence back up and get him to a place where he can be trusted in key moments down the stretch. Saturday’s outing might not erase the rough patches entirely, but it was an encouraging step for a pitcher they’ll need in October.
