Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Supports Salary Cap and Floor in Latest TV Appearance
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts shared that he's in favor of a salary cap if it comes with a floor

LOS ANGELES, CA—Although the existing Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between Major League Baseball owners and the MLB Players Association is almost a year from expiration, negotiations are already underway, with one prominent issue emerging: a salary cap.
Several owners across the sport have expressed their desire to implement a salary cap. At the same time, the MLB PA has made it clear they are unwilling to one, especially if there is no salary floor.
One team at the forefront of these negotiations and social media is the Los Angeles Dodgers, who last season assembled one of the most expensive rosters in MLB history en route to their second consecutive World Series victory.
In the words of Dodgers manager Dave Roberts after clinching the National League Pennant, his team “ruined baseball” by winning four more games in the Fall Classic, securing the league’s newest dynasty.
Still, despite all that talk, Roberts expressed that he’d be in favor of a salary cap if a floor were also implemented on his most recent post-World Series TV tour on Amazon Prime’s “Good Sports” on Tuesday night, alongside hosts Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson.
“You know what? I’m all right with that,” Roberts said. “I think the NBA has done a nice job of revenue sharing with the players and the owners. But if you’re going to kind of suppress spending at the top, I think that you’ve got to raise the floor to make those bottom-feeders spend money, too.”
While a cap would limit the potential spending from Los Angeles and, in theory, allow smaller markets still to have a shot at superstar players, it would not deter the Dodgers from other areas they’ve excelled at over the last decade, including international presence, player development, and nearly tripling the franchise’s net worth.
Still, the support of a salary cap from a large-market team such as the Dodgers is massive news for the league, and that makes him the second marquee person to share it, along with New York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner, who shared his support last week.
