Dodgers News: Doc gives encouraging update on Kersh’s recovery

MIAMI, FL — Clayton Kershaw, one of the most competitive guys to ever don a Dodgers’ uniform, is not going down without a fight. According to an update before Wednesday’s game with the Marlins, manager Dave Roberts gave what can only be called an encouraging update on the progress of his legendary lefty.

“I had a flyby conversation with Clayton,” Roberts reported, “he said he threw 83-84 pitches, which is pretty much five innings, six innings of a game. He said it felt better than yesterday, in his last bullpen.”

According to Roberts, Kershaw has been experimenting with various orthodics, and is making good progress. However, he cautioned against too much optimism. “Obviously the calendar is certainly working against us–the minor league season is coming to a close.” Ideally, it would be nice to get Kershaw into a rehab start with Oklahoma City prior to throwing off a big league mound, but that might not be possible. However, Roberts stressed that it wasn’t an absolute necessity for that to happen.
