Dodgers News: Dodgers #1 Prospect Dalton Rushing Getting Called Up To Major Leagues, Austin Barnes DFA’d

Los Angeles — It’s happening, folks. Dalton Rushing is getting called up to the Dodgers.

The news was broken Wednesday morning by Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic:

The 24-year old catcher had been hitting above .300 at Triple-A Oklahoma City while splitting time in the field between catching, his primary position, while also taking reps at first base, left field, and at DH. He had an OPS of .938.

The Dodgers selected Rushing out of Louisville in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft. He quickly climbed through the ranks of the Dodgers’ farm system, and now, he finds himself with his real shot on the big league roster.

In order to make room for Rushing on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers are designating Austin Barnes for assignment, Ardaya said. Barnes had been the Dodgers longest-tenured position player, making his debut with Los Angeles in 2015. He won two World Series championships with the Dodgers in 2020 and 2024, and was known as Clayton Kershaw‘s personal catcher. Depending on how quickly Rushing can secure a flight from Round Rock, Texas, where the Oklahoma City Comets are currently playing, it’s possible Rushing could be in the lineup as soon as tonight or tomorrow’s series finale against the Sacramento Athletics.
