Dodgers News: Dodgers Acquire Outfielder Steward Berroa from Blue Jays for Cash

LOS ANGELES— The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired outfielder Steward Berroa from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for cash considerations.

Berroa, 25, was DFA’d by the Blue Jays on May 7th after the team made a flurry of roster moves, including the promotion of right-hander Braydon Fisher and outfielder Jonatan Clase.

The soon-to-be 26-year-old made his Major League debut last season with the Blue Jays in June but only had a collective slash line of .189/.333/.216 in thirty-seven at-bats, but did steal six bases.

Not much has improved for Berroa this season in Triple-A, with the switch hitter hitting a combined .195/.267/.234 this season, prompting the Blue Jays to pull the trigger on his eventual DFA.

Though his numbers this year aren’t significant, he was in a good situation at the Triple-A level in 2024. Last year, he got into seventy-nine games for the Triple-A Bisons, hitting ten home runs, stealing thirty-four bases, and drawing walks at an 11.7% rate. Berroa also hit .281/.371/.454 for a 120 wRC+ last season.

The Dodgers had one open spot on their 40-man roster remaining, and with Berroa still having minor league options left, he’ll presumably head to Triple-A OKC, where the team is missing two outfielders in James Outman and Hyeseong Kim, both of whom are with the Dodgers on the 26-man roster.
