Dodgers News: Dodgers Activate Alex Vesia, Option Ben Casparius
The Dodgers have officially activated LHP Alex Vesia and optioned RHP Ben Casparius to make room on the 28-man roster

LOS ANGELES, CA—Following yesterday’s 3-1 victory against the Colorado Rockies, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced the activation of left-handed reliever Alex Vesia from the 15-day injured list.
Well, today it was confirmed that, before tonight’s game, the team announced they have activated Vesia and, to make room on the active roster, have optioned right-handed pitcher Ben Casparius.
Veisa was placed on the injured list on August 26th (retroactive August 23rd) due to a mild right oblique strain. The injury was considered nothing serious and more of a precautionary move by Vesia and the team.
Vesia would make two minor league rehab appearances with the Triple-A OKC Comets, each being scoreless, including a 1-2-3 appearance with two punch outs in his first game.
Vesia has been one of the Dodgers’ most reliable relievers this season, with a 2.75 ERA over 52.1 innings, along with an 11.87 K/9.
In what was somewhat of a shocking move, the Dodgers opted to option early-season dependable arm Ben Caspirius.
Casparius, 26, played a vital role for the Dodgers’ pitching staff in the first half of the regular season with multiple arms down in the starting rotation and bullpen.
However, that workload has likely caught up with him as his 77.2 innings are the highest of his major league career, and the righty saw his ERA balloon to 5.40 in fifteen innings during the second half.
Still, the right-hander has pitched in 46 games, 43 of which have come from the bullpen, going 7-5 with a 4.64 ERA and 1.27 WHIP across 77.2 innings. The 26-year-old struck out 21.3% of hitters faced while walking 6.3%.
Casparius was one of four pitchers in the bullpen with Minor League options, alongside Jack Dreyer, Edgardo Henriquez, and Justin Wrobleski. To free up space, the Dodgers would have had to release other relievers, but that wasn’t a feasible choice for them at this time.
