Dodgers News: Dodgers announce their 2024 non-roster invitees

With spring training starting less than three weeks from today, the Dodgers have officially announced their non-roster invitees. While the Dodgers’ current 40-man will all be in attendance, teams throughout the league invite many players not on their 40-man to big league camp.

Notable Dodgers prospects to keep an eye on

MLB released its Top 100 prospects this past Friday. Two Dodgers, Dalton Rushing and Nick Frasso, made the list. Rushing will be featured during this year’s big league camp and has been seen in numerous videos on Instagram.

Rushing is already working with pitchers such as Bobby Miller and Walker Buehler at Dodgers Stadium. After a solid 2023 minor league season, Rushing jumped over former top-catching prospect Diego Cartaya. However, both catching prospects will get a lot of work this spring as both will be in attendance.

Another name to look out for is recently acquired shortstop Trey Sweeney. Sweeney, entering his age 23 season, provides the Dodgers with much-needed depth at the shortstop position, which only involves Gavin Lux and Miguel Rojas on the 26-man roster. Sweeney was the number eight prospect in the Yankees farm system and had a .248/.361/.429 slash line in his minor career. Regarding MLB Pipelines grades for Sweeney, he graded out very well with an overall 50, which puts him at or slightly above the league average in projected performance.

My last name to follow is starting pitcher River Ryan, the Dodgers’ 8th-ranked prospect for 2023. Ryan, who was part of the dominant AA rotation in 2023, posted a 3.80 ERA in 26 starts between AA and AAA. The Dodgers’ minor league strength seems to be starting pitching, and Ryan getting a chance to showcase his talents on the big league club can be good for his opportunity to make the majors in 2024 or be used as a trade chip at this year’s deadline.

The first official spring training workout is February 9th, with pitchers and catchers reporting and a full squad workout starting shortly after February 14th. While most of the potential opening-day roster is set, there will still be a few positional battles to look out for, especially in the bullpen.
