Dodgers News: Dodgers Bullpen Shows Support for Alex Vesia

The "Bullpen Dawgs" showed support for Vesia in Game Three of the World Series

LOS ANGELES, CA—While the Los Angeles Dodgers survived an 18-inning walk-off to push them up 2-0 in the best-of-seven World Series over the Toronto Blue Jays, an interesting sight was caught on the caps of the Dodgers’ relievers.

After Tyler Glasnow departed the game in the 5th inning of Game Three, the first man up from the bullpen was lefty Anthony Banda, who was sporting “51” inscribed on his Dodgers hat, a tribute which seems to be for fellow left-handed relief pitcher Alex Vesia, who was unfortunately left off the Dodgers’ World Series 26-man roster.

Prior to the start of the Fall Classic, the Dodgers announced that Vesia and his wife were away from the team as the two dealt with a “deeply personal family matter.”

Vesia has not rejoined the team, as the situation appears grim, with thoughts and prayers from within the Dodgers organization and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stating it’s doubtful the left-hander pitches this series.

President of baseball operations Andrew Friedman also spoke on the matter and the team’s decision not to place Vesia on the Family Medical Emergency List.

“We just didn’t want to have any potential for any kind of pressure,” Friedman said last Friday. “This is so much bigger than baseball. For us, it was doing whatever small part we could to just 100 percent be supportive.”

The support for Vesia was seen on the cap of every arm that came out of the Dodgers bullpen, including veteran left-hander Clayton Kershaw.
