Dodgers News: Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Eyes Managing Team USA at 2028 Olympics

As baseball reenters the Olympic spotlight, Roberts hopes to represent his country on home turf.

LOS ANGELES, CA—While players across Major League Baseball prepare for the upcoming 2026 World Baseball Classic, which will take place in March and conclude just before the end of spring training, some around the sport have their eyes on the next international dance: the 2028 Summer Olympics.

One person who is especially interested in the upcoming Summer Olympics, which will be hosted in Los Angeles, is Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who told the California Post in an interview that he wants to manage.

“I want to manage the Olympic team,” Roberts told the California Post. “That’s what I want to do. In L.A., I want to manage that team.”

While the last few iterations of the Summer Olympics have excluded baseball, that will not be the case this time around, with the international games set to include America’s Pastime for the first time since 2008, despite a brief one-game appearance in 2020.

The 53-year-old has posted the highest winning percentage in National and American League history for a dynasty that has captured Los Angeles just as the city is getting set to host the event. Roberts’ ties to the city go beyond that, from his playing days with the Dodgers to his time in college at UCLA.

Unlike in years past, the availability of Major League players able to participate is not entirely clear and is set to be a significant point of discussion over the next year.

Multiple star players across the sport, including Shohei Ohtani and Bryce Harper, have expressed a desire to play in the Summer Olympics, emphasizing the importance of the games over the World Baseball Classic.

The World Baseball Classic has reached its peak in support over the last few tournaments, including the upcoming 2026 dance, which features multiple star players on Team USA, such as Cy Young Award winners Tarik Skubal and Paul Skenes.
