After a historic offseason and a thrilling World Series victory, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ momentum continues into 2025, not just on the field but also in merchandise sales. Shohei Ohtani, the face of baseball’s global expansion, leads the list of the most popular player jerseys in Major League Baseball, marking 18 consecutive months as the best-selling jersey in the U.S., Japan, and worldwide.

Ohtani’s ranking atop the jersey sales list, released by MLB and MLB Players, Inc. (MLBPI), is hardly surprising. Since signing his record-breaking 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers before the 2024 season, the two-way superstar has only solidified his place as the sport’s biggest draw. Fresh off leading the Dodgers to a championship and headlining MLB’s Tokyo Series, Ohtani’s presence reshapes the league’s international reach.

But Ohtani isn’t the only Dodger making waves in jersey sales. Los Angeles dominates the top rankings, with six players appearing in the top 20, more than any other team. Freddie Freeman (#2) and Mookie Betts (#4) join Ohtani in the top five, while Japanese star Yoshinobu Yamamoto (#10), franchise icon Clayton Kershaw (#11), and fan-favorite Kiké Hernández (#16) round out the Dodgers’ star-studded representation.

A Global Powerhouse

With Ohtani at #1 and Yamamoto debuting at #10, this marks the second time two Japanese-born players have cracked the top 10 in jersey sales, following Ichiro Suzuki and Yu Darvish in 2012. Yamamoto, who signed a massive deal with the Dodgers before the 2024 season, has quickly established himself as one of baseball’s premier pitchers. His rapid rise in popularity speaks to the Dodgers’ growing influence in Japan, a country where baseball remains deeply ingrained in sports culture.

Championship Effect

The Dodgers’ star power is undeniable, but their success on the field has undoubtedly fueled their dominance in jersey sales. After capturing the 2024 World Series title, the team dramatically opened the 2025 season in Tokyo, further elevating its global profile.

Freeman and Betts remain among the league’s most respected veterans, with Freeman securing the second-best-selling jersey in MLB. Meanwhile, Betts, a perennial MVP candidate, holds the fourth spot, further cementing the Dodgers’ grip on fan engagement.

Clayton Kershaw, a future Hall of Famer, continues to be a fan favorite in what could be his final season. His #11 ranking underscores his lasting impact on Dodgers fans and baseball. And while Kiké Hernández isn’t the team’s biggest star, his cult-like following in Los Angeles has kept his jersey among the league’s best-selling.

A League-Wide Trend

Beyond the Dodgers, young stars like Paul Skenes (#15), Elly De La Cruz (#13), Gunnar Henderson (#14), and Bobby Witt Jr. (#18) are making their mark, reflecting a shift toward MLB’s next generation of talent. However, Los Angeles remains the center of baseball’s biggest names.

With six of the top 20 most popular jerseys belonging to Dodgers players, the team’s dominance isn’t just limited to the field; it extends to fan culture, merchandising, and international appeal. Whether it’s the two-way brilliance of Ohtani, the steady leadership of Freeman and Betts, or the rising star of Yamamoto, one thing is certain: the Dodgers aren’t just baseball’s most successful team; they’re its most popular, too.
