Dodgers News: Dodgers Drop Anthony Banda, Open Roster Spot for Rortvedt

Anthony Banda cleared a roster spot as the Dodgers continue their offseason roster moves.

LOS ANGELES, CA—The DFA train continues to run through Los Angeles as the Dodgers have announced theyve DFA’d left-hander Anthony Banda to make room for their recent waiver claim of catcher Ben Rortvedt.

Earlier this offseason, the Dodgers were able to avoid arbitration with the southpaw, agreeing to a 1-year, $1.625 million salary just shy of Banda’s $1.7 million projection per MLB Trade Rumors.

Banda was entering his third year in Dodger Blue, after joining the organization during the 2024 regular season.

Over 114.2 innings, the lefty maintains a 3.14 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP, holding opponents to a .211 batting average, with a strikeout rate of 23.3% and a walk rate of 10.9%.

Banda’s fate ultimately came down to roster flexibility as the left-hander was out of minor league options and was one year away from becoming a free agent.

After the move, the Dodgers’ 40-man roster is full with Rordvedt taking Banda’s place on the roster, and now the team will have several days to either trade him or hope another team claims him on waivers.
