Dodgers News: Dodgers Lose Three Minor Leaguers in Rule-5 Draft

The Rule-5 Draft concluded the Winter Meetings yesterday and overall the Dodgers lost 3 players in the Minor Leagues.

ORLANDO, FL—While the rumor mill was churning and the hot stove was steaming with signings of multiple high-profile free agents, including Edwin Díaz, who signed a 3-year, $69 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Wednesday not only marked the end of the annual Winter Meetings but also featured the Rule-5 Draft.

Overall, the Dodgers lost just three players in their organization in the draft; all three were selected in the minor league phase.

To be eligible for this season’s Rule 5 Draft, a player must have turned professional at age 18 or younger in 2021 or at age 19 or older in 2022, and must not be on a 40-man roster.

The team that drafts a player must pay their former team $100,000 and keep the player on their MLB roster for the entire next season. If the team tries to send the player to the minors, he must clear waivers and be offered back to his original team for half of his Draft price.

The Dodgers had only one 40-man roster spot open (one the Díaz move would make official), meaning they could make only one selection, but the team skipped all their turns in the draft.

Still, the organization did lose three players overall: left-handed pitcher Brandon Neeck, right-handed pitcher Livan Reinoso, and outfielder Edwin Sanchez.

Sanchez, 21, was chosen by the Houston Astros and has not yet moved to play in the United States. Over the past four seasons, the outfield prospect has competed in the DSL, achieving a .924 OPS in 54 games during the 2025 season.

Neeck, 26, was chosen by the Pittsburgh Pirates as a 2022 ninth-round draft pick from Virginia. The left-hander posted a 5.40 ERA while pitching mainly out of the bullpen for Double-A Tula last season.

Finally, the Miami Marlins chose right-hander Livian Reinoso. In 2025, the 27-year-old posted a 4.14 ERA while pitching out of the bullpen for Great Lakes and Tulsa.
