GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Los Angeles Dodgers and manager Dave Roberts appeared to have decided on the fifth starter in the rotation, a race that was down to right-handers Dustin May and Tony Gonsolin.
Roberts stopped himself short of publicly naming the winner, as he wanted to let that player know personally before sharing the information with the media. However, he did confirm that the player would stay in Arizona while the rest of the team travels to Tokyo, Japan, on Wednesday.
The winner will likely be one of Tony Gonsolin, who has missed the last year recovering from Tommy John surgery, or Dustin May, who is also receiving from his second-career Tommy John and a mid-season life-saving esophagus surgery.
Gonsolin has appeared in two games this spring, allowing no runs and collecting three strikeouts. May has made three appearances this spring, allowing three earned runs across five innings for a 5.40 ERA.
Expect to hear the decision after today’s Cactus League game against the Arizona Diamondbacks and check back here on DodgersBeat.com for all the details.
