Dodgers News: Dodgers Re-Sign Matt Sauer to Minor League Deal
A few weeks after being released by the Dodgers, right-hander Matt Sauer re-signed with them on a minor league deal.

LOS ANGELES, CA—After being DFA’d and released earlier this month, the Los Angeles Dodgers have re-signed right-handed pitcher Matt Sauer to a minor league deal, according to the team’s transaction page.
Sauer, 26, was the collateral move for the Dodgers in the wake of Will Smith and Dalton Rushing’s injuries. With the team needing a catcher, Chuckie Robinson was added to the 40-man roster, replacing Sauer.
It was a rollercoaster season for Sauer, who consistently provided the Dodgers’ bullpen with crucial relief during the spring and summer due to multiple injuries in the Dodgers’ pitching staff.
Overall, the right-handed pitcher went 2-1 with a 6.37 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in ten appearances for Los Angeles. His last game was on August 22nd before he was sent back to Triple-A following Tanner Scott‘s activation from the 15-day injured list.
Despite Sauer clearing waivers, the Dodgers ended up releasing him.
Sauer signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers in the offseason. Although he faced long odds to make the Opening Day roster, the 26-year-old managed to join the team during their two-game series in Tokyo, Japan, but he did not appear in any games.
Sauer delivered solid stats early in the season until June, posting a 3.05 ERA and 4.21 FIP over 20.2 innings. However, after rejoining the team in June and July, his performance declined significantly, with his ERA rising above six.
Sauer will rejoin the Triple-A OKC Comets as pitching depth before the minor league season ends on Sunday.
