16-year-old Bryan Lara is a right-handed pitcher who plays for the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol team. Lara was born in Salamanca, Guanajuato and is the first Guanajuato native to ever sign with a Major League team.
Dodgers talent scout Juvenal Soto has been following Lara. In October Soto presented Lara his cap, jersey and official shorts, which he wore during the practice with the rest of the players who are part of the academy of the Bravos de León.
Lara has signed an undisclosed international free agent agreement with the Dodgers and will be joining the farm system in 2025. During a press release, Lara stated the following:
“I feel very happy, excited to be able to wear these colors. The truth is that belonging to this organization is something beautiful and now we are going for more, I know that it will not be easy at all, the road is still long, but working hard and with enthusiasm everything can be achieved”
Dodgers scout Soto stated: “What Bryan has is a good physique at his young age and especially his speed in his fastball touching 90 and 92 miles, that is very interesting for a 16-year-old, his command, his breaking and secondary pitches are above average, in addition to the fact that his body, his tools, can give him to be a prospect for the Major Leagues, probably a starter in the future”
Soto also mentioned that Lara will make three to four trips to the Dominican Republic where they will finish up polishing certain physical and technical issues. Along with a 90+ fastball, Lara has been working hard on his curveball, sinker, change-up, and sinker.
Once that is completed, Lara will come to the States, and either be assigned to the Arizona farm team or be assigned to Rancho.
The future looks bright for Bryan Lara, and I look forward to covering him.
