According to Fox Sports’ latest MLB Power Rankings, analyst Rowan Kavner has the Dodgers listed as the best team in baseball to start the 2025 season.
This comes even after a recent stretch of losses, dropping their record to 9-3 and placing them third in the National League West. Despite that, the Dodgers are still considered by many to be the most complete and dangerous team in baseball.
That reputation is being tested early. The Dodgers have hit a rough patch to open the year, highlighted by the surprising news that left-handed starter Blake Snell is heading to the injured list. The timing is challenging as the season has only just begun, and Snell’s absence has already impacted the rotation. In response, the Dodgers have turned to young lefty Justin Wrobleski, who has been slotted into the six-man rotation, while Landon Knack is also expected to log innings during the current road trip.
Still, despite the growing list of injuries, the Dodgers continue to find ways to win. Their depth is already being tested, and it’s holding up so far. As L.A. continues its strong start, they’ll need to stay locked in with both the Padres and Giants coming out hot to begin the season ranked No. 5 and No. 7, respectively, in the same power rankings.
Help could be on the way soon, though. Freddie Freeman is expected to return at some point, which would be a considerable boost. Kiké Hernández has stepped in at first base and done a solid job in his absence, underscoring how deep this roster truly is. Even if the Dodgers slip slightly in the next round of power rankings due to the injuries, the overall outlook remains positive.
One storyline to watch is the situation in center field. Andy Pages has been manning the position after winning the job over James Outman and Hyeseong Kim in spring training. However, seeing a change wouldn’t be surprising, with Pages struggling at the plate and on the defensive side and making many base-running mistakes. Kim and Outman remain viable options should the Dodgers look to shake things up.
Despite adversity early on, the Dodgers look like the team to beat, and the depth they’ve built might be the key to staying there.
