Dodgers News: Dodgers Transfer Evan Phillips to 60-Day Injured List to Start Spring Training
Phillips’ elbow recovery keeps him sidelined into the regular season, as expected, as the Dodgers adjust bullpen depth.

LOS ANGELES, CA—As many already predicted, the Los Angeles Dodgers have offically transferred veteran right-handed relief pitcher Evan Phillips to the 60-day injured list to make room on the 40-man roster for the re-signing of veteran utilityman Kiké Hernández.
The Dodgers inked Phillips to a 1-year, $6.5 million contract yesterday, but the righty is expected to miss most of the regular season as he rehabs from Tommy John surgery.
The 31-year-old player signed with the Dodgers in 2021 via a waiver claim from Tampa Bay and quickly became a pivotal reliever. He compiled a 15-9 record with a 2.22 ERA over 201 appearances. Notably, he maintains an impressive 0.94 WHIP and has struck out 221 batters in 195 innings.
Part of the decision to non-tender Phillips earlier in the offseason was to create roster flexibility as the team looked to address its team via trade and free agency, with the idea that Phillips would be a non-factor early on.
Phillips’ timetable is on track for him to possibly rejoin the Dodgers in July at the earliest, but with the depth in the organization on the pitching side, the team can hold it off until deep into the second half.
Phillips is the first member of the 40-man roster to be transferred to the 60-day IL, and that number could grow as spring training moves along, with Kiké expected to join him as he rehabs his elbow, also.
