Dodgers News: Dodgers Were “Badly” Trying to Acquire Steven Kwan, Per Nightengale
On deadline day, the Dodgers were actively trying to acquire outfielder Steven Kwan, confirming multiple rumors, per Bob Nightengale.

LOS ANGELES, CA—With the league now four days removed from the 2025 Major League Baseball trade deadline, multiple new reports are coming out of possible trades that could’ve happened, but ultimately never did.
One such trade per MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports was between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Cleveland Guardians, which would’ve involved a blockbuster deal involving outfielder Steven Kwan.
They were badly trying to acquire Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan, believing he would be the perfect fit to replace Michael Conforto in left field. But after hours of negotiations, were left empty-handed. The consolation prize was Washington Nationals outfielder Alex Call.
Nightengale further elaborated through an unnamed General Manager that most throughout the industry thought Los Angeles was getting Kwan.
Leading up to the deadline, multiple position players were linked to the Dodgers, including utilityman Brendan Donovan, Harrison Bader, and Steven Kwan.
Ultimately, Andrew Friedman and Co. never agreed to meet the enormous asking price for Kwan, opting instead to go with right-handed hitting outfielder Alex Call from the Washington Nationals.
Still, most fans were left disappointed by the Dodgers’ decision not willing to get the big name like Kwan, who’ve been a massive upgrade over current Dodgers outfielder Michael Conforto, even with a hot July.
Kwan is having an excellent season for Cleveland, hitting .281/.344/.399 with a 110 wRC+, along with above-average defense in the outfield.
Still, the asking price for Kwan, who is under team control at the end of the 2027 season, would have cost the Dodgers multiple top prospects, including Zyhir Hope, Josue De Paula, and possibly Dalton Rushing or Alex Freeland, a move Los Angeles was not willing to make.
