Dodgers News: Dustin May to Red Sox for No. 5 Prospect James Tibbs III

The Los Angeles Dodgers have traded right-hander Dustin May to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for outfield prospect James Tibbs III, Boston’s No. 5 prospect per MLB Pipeline, league sources confirmed.

May, once heralded as one of the most electric young arms in the game, had struggled to find consistency this season. In 104 innings, he posted a 4.85 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP, eventually losing his spot in the rotation and shifting to a long-relief role.

Across 52 career starts, May logged a 3.71 ERA and showcased a fastball regularly touching triple digits. Injuries hampered his progress, but the raw tools remain intriguing, just not in the Dodgers’ long-term plans.

For the Dodgers, it’s the end of an era for a homegrown talent — and a bet that Tibbs could be part of the club’s future outfield core.
