Dodgers News: Edgardo Henriquez with Team in Anaheim, Brock Stewart Leaves Clubhouse

ANAHEIM, CA—While the Los Angeles Dodgers look to even up their short three-game series tonight in Anaheim against the Los Angeles Angels, they’ll do so with a fresh arm from the minor leagues.
According to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, 23-year-old rookie right-handed pitcher Edgardo Henriquez has joined the team in Anaheim, with right-handed pitcher Brock Stewart seen leaving the clubhouse in street clothes as the potential corresponding move.
Henriquez will be returning to the Dodgers for his second time this season, after making three appearances in late July, during which he pitched 2.1 scoreless innings and recorded one strikeout. Less than a week later, he was optioned again to make space for left-hander Justin Wrobleski.
Overall, in twenty-two appearances for the Triple-A Comets this season, Henriquez has posted a mediocre 6.85 ERA while collecting thirty-six punchouts but has struggled with command as highlighted by an abysmal 1.86 WHIP.
Still, the right-hander possesses massive upside and a fresh arm for the Dodgers’ bullpen, which has been heavily used this season, leading all of Major League Baseball in innings pitched and having to lean up the mess left by Yoshinobu Yamamoto last night.
As for the situation for 33-year-old right-hander Brock Stewart, it remains unclear as to why he left the team, but we should have an answer in the next hour or so after meeting with Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.
Stewart was the lone Major League bullpen arm that Los Angeles acquired at this year’s trade deadline from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for outfielder James Outman.
So far in Stewart’s second stint in Los Angeles, he’s made four appearances, allowing two runs across 3.2 innings for a 4.91 ERA.
Stewart’s last appearance came three days ago on August 9th against the Toronto Blue Jays, where the right tossed a scoreless inning and picked up one strikeout.
Prior to the finalization of the trade, MLB insider Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that the deal took a bit longer to finalize due to Stewart’s medicals, but the deal ultimately went through.
Stewart underwent successful Tommy John surgery during the 2021 season, but still had a lingering elbow issue that kept him out for most of the 2023 season with the Twins.
