Dodgers News: Edman Hopes Ankle Can Get Back to 100% After Surgery
Edman finally breaks his silence after ankle surgery.

LOS ANGELES, CA—During the 2025 World Series, Los Angeles Dodgers super utilityman Tommy Edman spoke to the media and put the idea of offseason surgery for his right ankle on the table when the team decided what to do with the struggling Andy Pages.
For much of the 2025 season, Edman was unable to play center field, the position the team had envisioned he’d play the most before a lingering ankle injury would derail those plans.
Still, the Dodgers and Edman were able to push through the injury, with Edman playing second base all October and the team securing their second consecutive World Series win, but what happens next was up to Edman.
Well, during the General Manager Meetings earlier this month, Dodgers General Manager Brandon Gomes confirmed that Edman would be undergoing right ankle surgery, with no set timetable for the 2026 season.
During an appearance on ESPN LA radio’s “The Sedano and Kap Morning Show,” Edman shared that the procedure went well and too should return to full health next year.
“It’s doing all right. I recently got the surgery, so hoping that fixes it for good. It’s something I needed to do after dealing with it the past two seasons. They said everything went smooth. Hopefully it’s a good recovery and I get back to 100%.”
Edman has struggled with an ankle injury since last season, initially spraining it during a rehab assignment with the St. Louis Cardinals before being traded to Los Angeles.
Then, in the previous season, Edman was placed on the injured list for the first time in early May due to right ankle inflammation. This injury resulted from spraining a different part of his ankle than the one affected in 2024. His return was slightly delayed because he experienced difficulty progressing to running without discomfort.
Edman faced more trouble in early June after injuring his right ankle during a game against the New York Mets, but managed to avoid the injured list.
Edman worsened his ankle injury while running the bases against the Boston Red Sox. He was a late scratch from the lineup on July 28 and missed a key pinch-hit opportunity that night. However, Edman managed to avoid being placed back on the injured list.
Upon his return in September, the team tried to shift Edman back to center field to prepare for the postseason, but after experiencing pain after a game at Chase Field during the final road trip of the season, they knew Edman could not play there the rest of the season.
Edman signed a 5-year, $74 million extension with the Dodgers last winter, but was unable to truly be fully valued after missing significant time with the ankle injury, which limited his versatility.
So here’s hoping the injury is behind them and the team has a healthy 2026 season as it looks to become the first three-peat champion since the New York Yankees in 1998-2000.
