Dodgers News: Emmet Sheehan Begins Rehab Assignment

ARIZONA—Another Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher has begun a minor league rehab assignment this week. Young right-hander Emmet Sheehan took the mound in the Arizona League, making his first start since undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery last season.
Sheehan, 25, has been progressing toward his return over the last several weeks, including throwing live batting practice to utilityman Tommy Edman and right fielder Teoscar Hernández while each player was on the 10-day injured list.
However, Sheehan took another significant step yesterday, making his first minor league rehab assignment.
It was a dominant two-inning performance from Sheehan, who tossed two scoreless innings, allowing no hits, no walks, and collecting five strikeouts on twenty-nine total pitches.
Sheehan is still likely a month away from returning and would likely require at least five minor league rehab starts, but when he does return off the 60-day injured list, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated that he’ll be a starter.
Sheehan had a 4.92 ERA in 60.1 innings for the Dodgers during the 2023 season, where the righty mixed between the starting rotation and bullpen and was in the running for the fifth spot in the Dodgers rotation last spring before his injury.
The return of Sheehan will boost a Dodgers starting rotation that has already been decimated by injuries, losing three of their five Opening Day starters in Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, and Roki Sasaki.
