Dodgers News: Emmet Sheehan throws second rehab start in Vegas; how close is he to returning?

In a key game for Oklahoma City Comets, the Dodgers added three major league pitchers to the roster for rehab starts. It turned out these starts would be a good thing for OKC to move closer to taking over the top spot in PCL. The Comets moved within a half-game behind the league leading Athletics Triple-A Affiliate Las Vegas Aviators.

Emmet Sheehan was the starter for OKC and was making his second rehab start since having season ending Tommy John surgery in May of 2024. Sheehan looked sharp and focused on his second rehab start. He frustrated a talented Aviator offense with pinpoint accuracy with his four seem fastball and calculated off speed changeup and slider. Sheehan pitched three scoreless innings and gave up two weak hits that dropped in for base hits.

His line for Sunday’s outing39P / 27S / 3IP / 2H / 0R / 0BB / 5K / 11 whiffs. He threw four seem fastball that topped out at 98mph and averaged 96, changeup at 84mph, and slider at 88mph.

Sheehan should have several more rehab starts in the minors before returning the Dodgers. He is anticipated to return sometime in June before the All-Star break; the question is will he be added to the starting rotation or start off in the bullpen.
