The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Thursday afternoon that RHP Emmet Sheehan had undergone a successful Tommy John surgery on his right elbow yesterday. Emmet Sheehan, who was an integral depth arm heading into the 2024 campaign, had come off a 2023 season in which he went 4-1 with a 4.92 ERA in 60 IP and a 1.19 WHIP.

The Dodgers projected No. 5 starter began his 2024 campaign on the injured list with a forearm injury that he sustained in mid-March and was completely shut down from all baseball activities. He had yet to make a start in 2024.

Sheehan is another arm in the Dodgers starting rotation that has been plagued with injuries to begin this season, which includes Clayton Kershaw, Bobby Miller, Dustin May, and Tony Gonsolin.

A positive coming out of this news is that the Dodgers are expecting Miller and Kershaw to make their returns at some point in the season. Miller is close to starting his rehab process with some stints in the minors and Kershaw has been throwing bullpen sessions.

Despite another gut-wrenching blow to the rotation, the Dodgers still hold a commanding 7.5 game lead in the NL West with a record of 29-16.
