Dodgers News: Evan Phillips MRI Revealed Elbow Inflammation; Will Miss Extended Time on Injured List

PHOENIX— As the Los Angeles Dodgers prepare for Game Two of a four-game weekend series in the desert against their National League West rival, the Arizona Diamondbacks, it appears the Dodgers’ bullpen will be without one of their top arms for a while.
Prior to the start of this series, the Dodgers placed right-handed pitcher Evan Phillips on the 15-day injured list with forearm tightness during the finale game against the Miami Marlins.
Phillips, 30, had appeared in seven of the Dodgers’ fourteen games since being activated off the 15-day injured list on April 19th after rehabbing his partially torn rotator cuff from last fall.
Phillips appeared in seven games for the Dodgers this season, tossing 5.2 scoreless innings since his activation, collecting six strikeouts.
However, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and Phillips himself initially downplayed the severity of the injury, stating that the righty would not need an MRI.
Fast-forward to today, and Phillips indeed did undergo an MRI, which revealed more elbow inflammation than previously, pushing the right-hander’s return further.
According to Roberts, it’ll be two weeks before Phillips can restart his throwing progression, and depending on how much time is missed, a possible minor league rehab assignment.
Phillips joins a long list of Dodgers pitchers currently on the injured list, and with the bullpen already leading the league in innings pitched and their starters not going deep enough into games, it is not a recipe for success moving forward without one of their top arms.
