Dodgers News: Evan Phillips to Undergo Season-Ending Tommy John Surgery

LOS ANGELES, CA— Tough news for the Los Angeles Dodgers pitching staff, particularly their already overworked bullpen, as star relief pitcher Evan Phillips is set to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery on June 4th, per Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.
Phillips, 30, was placed on the 15-day injured list in early May after experiencing some discomfort in his right forearm.
Initially, he and Dave Roberts were not too concerned about it until the righty underwent an MRI, which revealed some inflammation.
Phillips did take a break from throwing for a few weeks. However, when the righty tried to restart his throwing program, he still felt pain, which caused the Dodgers to transfer him to the 60-day injured list to clear space for recently acquired 2023 National League All-Star closer Alexis Díaz yesterday from the Cincinnati Reds.
Phillips is one of fourteen Dodgers pitchers on the injured list and a key part of a bullpen that feels his absence. In his handful of games in 2025, Phillips had yet to allow a run, throwing six strikeouts to two walks in 5.2 innings.
It is the latest of a long line of arm/elbow injuries that has hammered the Dodgers pitching staff over the last three seasons, begging the question: When does it all end?
