Dodgers News: Foot Injury Puts Alex Call Among Dodgers’ Slow Starters This Spring
Call’s early-spring workload will be limited while the Dodgers monitor his recovery from a minor foot injury.

GLENDALE, AZ—For the first time in two seasons, the Los Angeles Dodgers enter camp coming off a relatively normal offseason with no season starting overseas as they did during 2024 and 2025. Still, they are coming off the heels of yet another deep October run, which culminated in back-to-back World Series titles.
That said, the Dodgers have been very cautious with their player group this spring, slow-playing many players’ ramp-ups during the first few weeks of spring training, including Mookie Betts, Max Muncy, Freddie Freeman, and Blake Snell. However, we can now add outfielder Alex Call to that list.
According to Jack Harris of the California Post, Call has been limited this spring due to a minor foot injury and likely won’t get into game action for the foreseeable future as the Dodgers’ training staff manages it.
One Dodgers outfielder who has not yet appeared in Cactus League play, and likely won’t for at least a little while longer, is Alex Call. Though last year’s trade deadline acquisition has been participating in team workouts this week, he is also nursing a minor foot issue that has put him on a slightly slower progression this spring.
“Just woke up one morning and my foot hurt, which was weird,” Call said. “But didn’t do anything (specifically to hurt it). Not too concerned about it.”
Call, a right-handed outfielder acquired by the Dodgers at last year’s trade deadline, hit .247/.333/.384 with four doubles, two home runs, and five RBI in 38 games down the stretch for L.A. He contributed to the team’s repeat as World Series champions and often served as a defensive substitute late in games for Teoscar Hernández.
While Call has yet to appear in a game during the first week of play in the Cactus League, it is not overly concerning, as several other key players have yet to make an appearance as well.
However, with many bench spots available for the Dodgers and Call having several minor league options left, his place on the Dodgers’ Opening Day 26-man roster is uncertain. Potential competitors include Alex Freelan, Hyeseong Kim, Ryan Ward, and possibly Santiago Espinal or Nick Senzel, who could make a push as potential non-roster invitees.
