WASHINGTON D.C.— While the Los Angeles Dodgers lick their wounds after yet another loss, their fourth in five games during their early season East Coast road trip, there is some news to celebrate as former Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen recorded the 450th save of his career tonight.
Jansen, 37, is the current Los Angeles Dodgers all-time save leader, collecting 350 saves with the team from 2010 until his final season in Dodger Blue in 2021.
After the conclusion of the Dodgers 2021 season, Jansen, a free agent, joined the Atlanta Braves, where he had a career year, leading the National League in saves with forty-one, his first time reaching that mark since the 2017 season.
Still, despite the dominance in his late thirties, Jansen has bounced around the league, going from Atlanta in 2022 to the Boston Red Sox in 23′ and 24′ and landing with the Freeway rival Los Angeles Angels on a 1-year, $10 million contract for the 2025 season.
With Jansen securing the save for the Angels in their 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays, he’s the 4th player in Major League Baseball history with 450 career saves, joining Lee Smith (478), Trevor Hoffman (601), and Mariano Rivera (652).
While Jansen has not set many public goals for himself, if the right-hander wants to solidify his Hall of Fame chances, he’ll aim for the 500 career save total, which is now well within reach.
While Jansen is no longer a Dodger, he remains one of the most iconic players in the franchise’s history, posting a 2.37 ERA and 13.0 K/9 over his twelve-year Dodgers career, and once he goes into the Hall of Fame, you’ll see his #74 in the rafters.
