LOS ANGELES, CA — Justice has been done to Freddie Freeman. On late Sunday, it was announced the the Dodgers’ first bagger will be on the NL All-Star team after all. He will be taking the place vacated by Mets outfielder Starling Marte, who is listed as “inactive” for the game (whatever that means).
With Freeman’s red-hot July, it was a little ridiculous that he was not on the team in the first place. His numbers speak for themselves. Freeman is hitting .321 with 13 home runs and 59 RBI. His OPS of .927 is only behind that of Paul Goldschmid in the National League. He’s the MLB leader in hits with a 114. AND he’s stolen 7 bases.
So there.
This now makes six Dodgers on the NL All-Star team, matching the number of the 2017 club, who had a similar 61-29 record going into the All-Star team. So, unless Will Smith gets some late justice, your Dodger All-Stars are Betts and Trea Turner (voted in by the fans) Clayton Kershaw and Tony Gonsolin (initial selections), and Tyler Anderson and Freddie Freeman (replacement picks).
So get ready for the chants of “Freddie! Freddie!” to echo throughout Chavez Ravine on Tuesday night.
Congrats, Freddie. You definitely deserve it.
