No biggie, just another MVP in the LA lineup
LOS ANGELES — Breaking. According to multiple media sources, the Dodgers have finally reeled in their big fish of the off-season. All Star Freddie Freeman, late of the Atlanta Braves, has come to terms with the club on a deal that will keep the Southern California native home for the next six seasons.
According to early reports, the deal is for those six years at $162 million dollars. The deal makes Freeman the second highest paid first baseman ever in the big leagues per year, right after Miggy Cabrera of the Tigers.
Coming off an MVP year in the Covid-shortened 2020 season, Freeman put up solid numbers and led the Braves to their first World Series win since Coolio was on the charts. The lefty first baseman hit an even .300, drove in 83 and scored an NL leading 120 runs.
And by all reports, he’s a class-A guy, which is not nothing as Dodger fans learned the hard way last season. He becomes part of an offensive juggernaut that has already sent hearts aflutter all over the internet.
Of course, there are still questions with this team. What about Gavin Lux? Is Trevor Bauer going to figure into this equation in any way? Do we have enough starting pitching? Who’s our closer?
But for the time-being, life is good. Very good.
