The Los Angeles Dodgers’ 60-day Injured List officially opened yesterday, with pitchers and catchers reporting to camp in Glendale, Arizona. The Dodgers made their first transfer, placing 26-year-old right-hander Gavin Stone to make room for the re-signing of Kiké Hernández.

However, while Stone is the first player to be transferred to the 60-day Injured List, he will not be the last as the Dodgers also have a few more candidates, all of which are pitchers in Kyle Hurt (Tommy John), Brusdar Graterol (shoulder), River Ryan (Tommy John), and Emmet Sheehan (Tommy John).

Gavin Stone was one of the Dodgers’ best starting pitchers last season, leading the team in innings pitched and games started with a 3.53 ERA, 1.211 WHIP, and 116 strikeouts. However, after the all-star break, Stone began to show signs of regression.

In the second half, Stone only made it out of the fifth inning less than a handful of times. It all came crashing down in the final month of the regular season after Stone was placed on the 10-day Injured List with shoulder inflammation.

Despite Stone and the Dodgers holding out for the young righty to pitch in October in some capacity, those dreams were dead after Stone underwent season-ending shoulder surgery on October 9th, ending any thought of Stone pitching in October.

Due to the surgery being done so late in the season, Stone not only missed all of the Dodgers’ 2024 postseason run but will also likely miss all of the upcoming 2025 season, hence the placement on the 60-day IL.

Expect the Dodgers to make another transfer as early as today with the announcement of Clayton Kershaw‘s deal, which is set to be made official per multiple reports.
