Dodgers News: Gonsolin Clears Waivers, Elects Free Agency

LOS ANGELES, CA—After being DFA’d by the Los Angeles Dodgers last week to make room on the 40-man roster for the addition of outfielder Ryan Ward, left-handed pitcher Robinson Ortiz, and veteran third baseman Max Muncy, the right-hander has cleared waivers and elected free agency.
The Dodgers had several days to work out a trade or hope that Gonsolin was claimed off waivers by another team, but that never came to fruition, and Gonsolin was outrighted to the minor leagues, where he then opted for free agency instead, since he had more than three years of major league service time.
Gonsolin was in his final year of arbitration and was set to earn an estimated $5.4 million per MLB Trade Rumors, but was expected to miss more than half the season recovering from internal brace surgery, which ended his 2025 season.
Due to the injury, Gonsolin probably no longer fits into their plans, especially with several young pitchers like Gavin Stone and River Ryan expected to return next season. He now has the chance to start anew with another team while finishing his rehab.
Gonsolin missed the whole 2024 season recovering from Tommy John surgery and has faced various other setbacks, such as forearm and shoulder injuries.
Since his debut in 2019, he has pitched 411.2 innings for the Dodgers, posting a 3.34 ERA, a 23.2% strikeout rate, and an 8.9% walk rate.
He was an All-Star in the 2022 season, ending with a 2.14 ERA over 130.1 innings and a 16-1 record. In 2020, he finished fourth in Rookie of the Year voting while posting a 2.31 ERA.
In his last season with the Dodgers, Gonsolin started seven games with a 5.00 ERA before he had elbow surgery.
