LOS ANGELES— After starting the 2025 Major League Baseball regular season undefeated in their first eight games, the Dodgers have dropped four of their last six, largely due to some early season starting rotation issues.
With left-handed starting pitcher Blake Snell placed on the 15-day Injured List before the three-game series against the Washington Nationals, the Dodgers are left with a massive question mark for Snell’s turn in the rotation.
In Snell’s absence, the team turned to rookie starters Justin Wroblewski and Landon Knack, who each were hit hard in Nationals Park in Washington D.C., against the Nationals, allowing thirteen runs in seven innings.
However, one starter in the Dodgers organization that is racing back toward a return is righty Tony Gonsolin, who finished his second rehab outing in Triple-A OKC this past week.
Gonsilin, 30, was able to toss 3.1 innings, allowing one unearned run and striking out seven of his eleven batters faced on the day.
Overall, in his two rehab assignments, Gonsolin has thrown five innings without allowing an earned run, striking out eight, walking three, giving up two hits, and posting a 1.00 WHIP.
While the Dodgers could need a starter for the upcoming series against the National League West rival Colorado Rockies, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated in D.C. that the team wants Gonsolin to hit the five-inning mark before any thought of activation.
Gonsolin was able to pitch into the fourth inning in his last outing before being removed, but for his next start, a clean four innings would be the goal.
Also appearing in a rehab outing this past week was right-handed relief pitcher Evan Phillips, who did not have the best night, allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits with just one strikeout on 25 pitches.
While the results weren’t perfect, the big thing is that Phillips was healthy coming out of the game and should appear in a few more outings before he’s activated, possibly by the end of April or the start of May.
