Dodgers News: Heyward lands on 10-day IL; Outman called up from Triple-A

The Dodgers placed Jason Heyward on the 10-day IL before yesterday’s contest with a knee injury. It was later revealed through an MRI that the injury was a bone bruise. This is Heyward’s second stint on the IL as he missed roughly six weeks with a back injury earlier in the year. Heyward has a slash line of .203 AVG/.299 OBP/.697 OPS in 42 games played this year.

James Outman was recalled from Triple-A to take Heyward’s spot in the outfield. After succumbing to a cold start to his season, Outman was optioned to Oklahoma City in mid-May. With the benefit of the Pacific Coast League as very hitter-friendly, Outman has resurged by hitting a .279 AVG/.393 OBP/ .924 OPS with nine home runs in 147 at-bats.

The addition of a newly resurgent Outman could be a tremendous boost for not only the Dodgers’ defense but for the offense as well. Depending on how Outman performs, this could alter the Dodgers front office plans to look for a new outfielder at the deadline.
