After an embarrassing defeat to the Houston Astros to start their road trip, missing first baseman Freddie Freeman as he deals with a personal medical issue with his son.
When asked if the Dodgers would make a roster move after the loss, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated that they were unsure if they would make a move. However, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, the Los Angeles Dodgers are calling up 27-year-old minor league catcher Hunter Feduccia.
Feduccia was already on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster, so no corresponding roster move had to be made; just a move on the 26-man roster would do the job. The logical move would be for the Dodgers to place Freeman on the family emergency list for the remainder of this series and possibly more.
Feduccia has spent six seasons in the Dodgers’ minor league system, the last three with their Triple-A affiliate in OKC. This season, the left-handed hitter has a .295/.420/.451 slash line with a .871 OPS, five home runs, and forty-two RBI.
While the Dodgers already have multiple catchers on their roster in Austin Barnes and Will Smith, they could move Smith to first base for the time being, a position he has played once in his career. Feduccia has split time between catcher and designated hitter throughout his minor league career, but the Dodgers could try him at first base as well.
