Dodgers News: In Need of Bullpen Help, Bobby Miller Shifted to Bullpen in OKC

BOSTON, MA—With the 2025 Major League Baseball trade deadline less than a week away, the Los Angeles Dodgers will have plenty of work to do as they put the finishing touches on their roster.

One area that the team will seek to address at the deadline, according to multiple MLB insiders, is the bullpen.

While the Dodgers have been linked to multiple big names across the league, such as Emmanuel Clase, David Bednar, Jhoan Durán, and Griffin Jax, to name a few, prices are expected to be astronomically high.

In the meantime, the Dodgers are also planning to experiment internally for a solution with right-handed pitcher Bobby Miller set to shift to the bullpen for the Triple-A OKC Comets, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.

Bobby Miller — the team’s Game 2 starter just two postseasons ago — is being shifted to the bullpen in Triple-A Oklahoma City, according to league sources.

It remains uncertain whether the Dodgers’ shift in Miller’s role is just to meet their current needs or if it signals a new direction for the former first-round draft pick.

Miller’s latest game was on July 22nd, where he gave up six runs on eight hits and four walks in 4.2 innings. The four walks marked the third-highest number he has allowed in a start this season for the Comets, a total he has reached three separate times.

This season, in sixteen games (fourteen starts) for Oklahoma City, he has a record of 3-3, an ERA of 5.58, and a WHIP of 1.63. Miller made his first relief appearance with the Comets on April 6th in a game started by Evan Phillips during his rehab assignment, the other was piggybacking off Emmet Sheehan during his.

After posting a 3.72 ERA during his rookie season, becoming one of the top pitchers on the team, Miller has struggled to replicate anything even close to that first-year success.

The last two seasons, Miller has pitched to an 8.85 ERA and 7.00 FIP, prompting the Dodgers to keep the right-hander in Triple-A, where he has still shown too much inconsistency.

Time will tell if this is a new role for Miller and if he can contribute to the Major League club during the second half of the season.
