Dodgers News: Jack Little Recalled, Emmet Sheehan Optioned to Triple-A OKC; Tony Gonsolin Transferred to 60-Day IL

LOS ANGELES, CA— In what can be considered a shocking move, the Los Angeles Dodgers have optioned right-handed pitcher Emmet Sheehan just a day after he made his season debut.

Sheehan, 25, appeared in his first game since the 2023 season after undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery in the spring of ’24.

The righty tossed four quality innings, allowing just one run on three hits, and collected six punchouts along the way.

It is unknown why the Dodgers opted to send down Sheehan after his debut last night, but the running theory is that the team likely wants to skip his scheduled start in Colorado. So, do not be shocked to see Bobby Miller or Landon Knack make a spot start next week.

In his place, the Dodgers have recalled minor league right-handed pitcher Jack Little from Triple-A OKC.

Little, 27, has a 2.20 ERA in 32.2 innings pitched this season for the OKC Comets, including a 1.16 WHIP and thirty-three strikeouts.

The Dodgers’ bullpen got a much-needed break in yesterday’s walk-off win, needing to use Sheehan and lefty Justin Wrobleski.

Still, overall, the Dodgers’ bullpen has pitched more innings than any other team in Major League Baseball this season.

In order to make room on the 40-man roster for Jack Little, the Dodgers announced that they’ve transferred right-handed pitcher Tony Gonsolin to the 60-day injured list.

Gonsolin, 31, was placed on the 15-day injured list on June 7th due to right elbow discomfort.

The right-hander missed the entire 2024 season recovering from season-ending Tommy John surgery due to a torn UCL suffered in the summer of 2023.

It was Gonsolin’s second stint on the injured list this season after missing the first month of the season due to back tightness suffered in spring training.

Thankfully, an MRI revealed that the right-hander’s UCL is still intact, but there is no timetable for his return.

“I know ultimately how I’m feeling is I’m letting the team down, and those are innings that I should be eating up,” Gonsolin said. “It’s baseball, it happens, injuries happen. It just really sucks. I’m very frustrated.”

Gonsolin is now the third Dodgers starting pitcher on the 60-day injured list, joining lefty Blake Snell (shoulder) and righty Tyler Glasnow (shoulder).
