Dodgers News: James Outman with Dodgers in Miami

MIAMI— Before today’s game against the Miami Marlins, it appears that the Dodgers will recall left-handed hitting outfielder James Outman from Triple-A OKC as he is with the team in Miami.

While the Dodgers have not made an official announcement about the move, it likely involves the injury to Dodgers right fielder Teoscar Hernández.

Yesterday, Hernández was removed from the game early due to left groin tightness. After the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts simply stated it was “a little concerning,” which likely means an injured list stint/announcement today.

Hernández, 32, would be the second Dodgers position player to go down with an injury over the last two weeks, joining utilityman Tommy Edman, who tweaked his ankle in last Tuesday’s win over these same Marlins.

The injury to Edman allowed Korean utilityman Hyeseong Kim to make his Major League debut, stealing two bases and going 1-for-4 in his first start yesterday at second base.

It has been quite the journey for Outman since finishing third in National League Rookie of the Year voting during the 2023 season.

After a disastrous 2024 first half in which the slugger hit .156/.254/.262 with a .516 OPS, the Dodgers pulled the plug, optioning Outman back to Triple-A.

Despite a slow start to the regular season for the Triple-A OKC Comets, Outman has rebounded well during a hot two weeks of play, bringing his season totals to a more respectable number.

Overall, Outman is hitting .254/.322/.508 with a .830 OPS, eight home runs, twenty-seven RBIs, eleven walks, and five stolen bases.

Outman was the safe and logical choice for the Dodgers to replace Teoscar, as he can play anywhere in the outfield. However, the game plan would likely put Outman in center field, Michael Conforto in left field, and Andy Pages in right field.
