Dodgers News: Justin Dean Claimed Off Waivers by Giants

Justin Dean was claimed off waivers by the Dodgers NL West rival, the Giants

LOS ANGELES, CA—After the Los Angeles Dodgers added minor leaguers Ryan Ward and Robinson Ortiz to the 40-man roster and picked up Max Muncy’s $10 million club option for the 2026 season, the Dodgers had to make several moves to create room on the team’s 40-man roster, one of which involved outfielder Justin Dean.

Dean, 28, was a career minor leaguer in the Atlanta Braves and Dodgers farm system before finally making his Major League debut earlier this season for Los Angeles.

The right-handed speedster and defensive specialist played a pivotal role late in games for the Dodgers, including a now-famous play in Game Six of the 2025 World Series, where Dean was front in center watching a ball get lodged in the center field wall padding.

Dean is a speedy, defensive center fielder who recently won a World Series with Los Angeles. He played in 18 regular-season games and made 13 postseason appearances. Although he only had two at-bats — finishing 0-for-2 with a strikeout — he was clearly valued as a depth player. The 28-year-old Dean (turning 29 next month) has a full slate of minor league options and posted a strong .289/.378/431 batting line with 27 stolen bases in Triple-A.

While Dean’s tenure in Dodger Blue was short, he’ll be long remembered as one of the 26 players they helped secure the Dodgers’ back-to-back championships, the first in the franchise’s history.
