Dodgers News: Kershaw Turned Down Front Office Role

During the last days of the 2025 season, Andrew Friedman proposed a front office position to Kershaw, but the veteran declined.

LOS ANGELES, CA—After Yoshinobu Yamamoto secured the final out of the 2025 World Series in the 11th inning of an all-time Game Seven, it was not just the end of an outstanding World Series, but the end of Clayton Kershaw’s Hall of Fame career.

In September, the 18-year veteran left-hander officially announced his retirement from Major League Baseball, and the team rewarded him with his third championship.

However, leading up to the postseason and after Kershaw announced his retirement, Dodgers President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman reportedly offered Kershaw a role in the Dodgers’ baseball operations department.

According to Andy McCullough of The Athletic, who also covered Kershaw and the Dodgers for years with the Los Angeles Times, the offer was made shortly before the postseason, and Kershaw declined it in particular.

In the waning days of Kershaw’s career, Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman approached him with an offer to stick around as a member of the baseball operations department. Kershaw was flattered by the offer. “I don’t think I have any full-time jobs in my future,” he said. “Except full-time dad.”

The answer is in line with what we expect from Kershaw, as he and his wife, Ellen, are expected to welcome their fifth child this winter, and the longtime Dodger expressed his interest in remaining with his family.

When he is ready to return to baseball in the future, Kershaw might take a full-time role or serve as a special advisor in the Dodgers’ front office.

Kershaw is expected to make occasional appearances at Dodger Stadium, such as when the team receives its World Series Rings and raises the 2025 World Series Championship banner. He may also assist the team’s pitching staff during Spring Training at Camelback Ranch.

Whatever Kershaw chooses, he will always be a lifelong Dodger, and the organization would gladly welcome him back in a larger role if he wishes.
