Dodgers News: Kershaw Willing to Take on Any Role in Postseason
Kershaw will do whatever is asked of him moving forward

MILWAUKEE, WI—One name that we should expect to see on the Dodgers’ 26-man National League Championship Series roster is left-handed veteran Clayton Kershaw, who rejoined the Dodgers during the National League Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
With the starting rotation full of arms, Kershaw and fellow right-handed starter Emmet Sheehan were forced to the bullpen, where they would help carry the load of an injury-riddled and inconsistent unit that struggled in the final month of the season.
While Kershaw was absent from the Dodgers’ Wild Card Series roster, he made his first 2025 postseason appearance out of the bullpen in Game Three of the NLDS, and the results were not great.
While Kershaw was able to weave his way out of trouble in a scoreless seventh inning, the Phillies would tack on five more runs in the eighth inning with Kershaw back out there, forced to eat it while the Dodgers conserved their high-leverage arms for the next game.
Due in part to Scott’s absence, Kershaw stayed in the game to pitch a second inning, despite the Dodgers’ increasing deficit.
It remains unclear whether the left-hander will make the NLCS roster, but he is prepared to fill any role the Dodgers require, whether it’s as a spot starter, bulk innings guy, or a mop-up role.
“Clayton, just like all of our guys, is willing to do whatever it takes to contribute and whatever role that might be,” Roberts said.
“We were down a man for a game last series, and going forward, I don’t know how this roster is going to look, but Clayton to everybody else, will do whatever it takes.”
Kershaw is in the midst of his final season of his career, and while he was around for the Dodgers’ World Series championship last Fall, the left-hander wants to make his mark on this year’s roster before he walks off into the sunset.
