Dodgers News: Kershaw Won’t Be On Dodgers Wild Card Series Roster

Kershaw won't be on the Dodgers roster for the Wild Card Series, per Roberts

SEATTLE, WA—Veteran lefty Clayton Kershaw is set to take the ball one last time today in the regular season in the final start of his Major League career versus the Seattle Mariners.

However, unlike right-handed starters Emmet Sheehan and Tyler Glasnow, it’ll be a regular start for Kershaw, making him unavailable for the Dodgers’ upcoming three-game Wild Card Series on Tuesday, per Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

David Vassegh of AM 570 L.A. Sports reports that Kershaw will not have a shortened appearance and therefore will not be available for the Dodgers’ postseason roster in the Wild Card Series.

The Dodgers haven’t publicly announced their Wild Card Series rotation, but Shohei Ohtani, Blake Snell, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto are expected to start in some order. Ohtani threw a bullpen session yesterday, while Snell did so today.

Kershaw has recently indicated that he realizes he’s part of a surplus of starting pitchers, suggesting there might not be a spot for him in the Dodgers’ rotation by October.

He’s shown a willingness to pitch from the bullpen and help in any role as the Dodgers aim to defend their World Series title.

However, the Dodgers possess a number of left-handed relief pitchers, and they appear to be more suitable for the Wild Card Series roster.
