Dodgers News: Kiké Hernández Announces He Underwent Elbow Surgery

Kiké Hernández underwent left elbow surgery, an injury that has affected him since May.

LOS ANGELES, CA—It’s been a little over two weeks since the Los Angeles Dodgers wrapped up their second consecutive World Series win, defeating the Toronto Blue Jays in an all-time classic Game Seven, but as the saying goes, life moves on, and that’s especially true in baseball.

The 2026 MLB offseason is finally in full swing with the annual General Manager Meetings just concluding in Las Vegas earlier this week, and of the Dodgers’ several free agents in the market, we just got a massive update on fan-favorite Kiké Hernández.

After being seen in public by a few fans, Hernández was wearing a sling on his left arm, sparking speculation that the veteran utilityman underwent some procedure.

Well, Hernándezconfimred those reports announcing himself on Instagram that he underwent left elbow surgery after helping the Dodgers win yet another World Series title, and the third of his career.

Hernández did not give specific details about the operation but mentioned that the injury he played with resulted in a fracture in his left elbow.

Due to the surgery and the rehab process, Hernández also announced that he would not be able to participate in the upcoming World Baseball Classic for Team Puerto Rico.

The Dodgers’ current free agent missed nearly two months of the regular season due to a left elbow injury that occurred during a head-first slide into home plate in a game against the Cleveland Guardians in late May.

Before the All-Star break, Hernández was placed on the 10-day injured list, where he would remain until late August, after undergoing nonsurgical procedures that saved his season.

Hernández wound up hitting just .203/.255/.366 with eight doubles, 10 home runs, and 35 RBI over 92 games. Still, Hernández played in all 17 Dodgers postseason games, delivering his signature October performances both offensively and defensively.

As mentioned, Hernández is a free agent, and while a reunion is not 100% guaranteed, all signs likely point to him returning to the Dodgers on a short-term deal, as the last two offseasons have shown.
