LOS ANGELES, CA — In yet another move to shore up the Dodgers’ bullpen depth, the team has acquired righty Yohan Ramírez from the New York Mets for the proverbial cash considerations. He is out of minor league options so will have to be added directly to the big league roster. The corresponding move on Monday was to designate righty Eduardo Salazar for assignment.
To say that Ramirez is well traveled is to be putting it lightly. So far, the 29-year-old Dominican has appeared in games with six different MLB teams, the Dodgers becoming the third team for him in 2024 alone. He made six appearances with the Orioles early in the spring before getting DFA’ed and landing with the Mets on May 6. His stay in the Big Apple lasted all of two weeks before the trade with the Dodgers, which was announced on Monday.
Ramírez has a 6.91 ERA and 3.78 xERA in 10 games with the Mets and Orioles this season, with 17 strikeouts and six walks in 14⅓ innings. In his five seasons in the majors, he has an overall 4.29 ERA in 112 games, all relief appearances, with 145 strikeouts and 75 walks in 138⅓ innings. He saw most of his big league time with the Mariners, for whom he pitched in 41 games across three seasons. This year, he had a bit of fun in NYC when he got tossed from a game for throwing at Milwaukee’s Rhys Hoskins, which created a dust-up to say the least. (see video below).
Ramirez is yet another of the seemingly endless parade of lower-leverage pitchers that the Dodgers have paraded through town so far this year. Already, the team has used 26 different pitchers, and seem to be shooting for a new record (the old mark of 39 was set in 2021 and 2023). In other words, don’t get too comfortable, Yohan. Chances are you won’t be a Dodger for long.
