The Dodgers have decided the fate of their last two club options available. Earlier today, the team chose not to pick up Joe Kelly‘s option, and Daniel Hudson will share that fate as well.
Daniel Hudson, in his return to LA, suffered numerous injuries and setbacks. Hudson missed the entire 2022 season due to a UCL injury and only appeared in one game in 2023 when he tweaked his MCL, ending his season. Due to Hudson’s age and injury history, it was hard to imagine LA picking up the 6.5-million-dollar club option. Like the other names that were dropped, both sides can work out a new deal for less money as he makes his way back to the majors.
What is surprising is the team picking up Blake Treinen‘s club option, as he missed nearly all of 2022 and 2023 due to injury. Treinen’s option was a bit tricky as many factors for the potential money to earn were due to health, which is why it has been reported that the option was for one million compared to the potential seven million that was estimated.
Treinen was returning to the Dodgers at the end of the 2023 season but was ultimately shut down and did not appear for the club. The Dodgers must see he is healthy enough to get another shot to make the roster this upcoming spring, but only time will tell.
If you are keeping track at home, the Dodgers had six club options to make decisions on by tomorrow, which has been done.
Lancy Lynn (declined)
Max Muncy (2-year extension)
Joe Kelly (declined)
Blake Treinen (picked up)
Daniel Hudson (declined)
Alex Reyes (declined)
