Dodgers News: LA to decline Joe Kelly’s club option

Per a friend of Carne Asada, Rob Bradford reported that the Dodgers will indeed decline the 9.5 million dollar club option, opting for the one million dollar buyout.

Joe Kelly was a fan favorite in his short stint in LA, dating from 2018 to 2021 and 2023. Kelly, known for his outspoken antics, was beloved by Dodgers fans when he chirped back at notorious villain Carlos Correa in 2020.

The Dodgers acquired Kelly at this year’s trade deadline along with fellow teammate Lance Lynn, who also had his club option declined a few days ago. Kelly, turning 36 years old in June this summer, will likely try and work a multi-year deal with the Dodgers or another club as he gets closer to calling it a career, which he has hinted at in the past.

While a reunion with LA is not out of the cards, his 9.5 million dollar club option for a reliever who has battled command and health issues was an easy decision to make as the club looks to shed as much money this offseason to make way for a potential spending spree.

Here at DodgersBeat and the Bleed Los Podcast, we wish Joe Kelly the best, as he was an avid supporter of the page.
